Amazon Unveils a [Horrifying] Fanfic Publishing Platform

xenaandgabrielle4ever:

Today, Amazon announced the imminent launch of its newest endeavor, Kindle Worlds, a publishing platform for fanfiction. When I read the announcement, I was horrified, then angry, then sad. I want to take a moment to explain why this is such a tragedy.

This is a bad idea, I don’t like it at all.

Very bad idea.  Do not support this platform.  There are details in the Read More.

WESTBORO BAPTIST IS ACTIVE IN NORMAN TODAY, AND THEY ARE BY NO MEANS WELCOME. THEY ARE PLANNING TO PROTEST THE FUNERALS OF CHILDREN KILLED IN THE RECENT TORNADO. SHOW THEM WHAT AN ANGRY OKIE IS LIKE, Y’ALL!

REBLOG REBLOG REBLOG!

they can go fuck themselves

followers reblog this like hell okay

please

are you fucking kidding me

how the hell do you plan to protest the deaths of children who were killed by a tornado

FUCKING SIGNAL BOOST

Because obviously the kids did something SO sinful that God brought down the tornado and killed them, and giving them a proper funeral is totally the same thing as loving the sin.

I despise the way Westboro thinks.  This is actually not only Baptlist mentality, it’s Evangelist and extreme Catholic.

And look, one of her surnames is Phelps.  She is now one of my least-favorite people.  That entire family is stir crazy and so full of hatred I can’t even being to imagine how they live with themselves.

Another reason besides drowsiness for me not to take Benadryl for my allergies.

Fuck that, Benadryl is a GODSEND for my allergies.  I take it ONCE, and I’m good for the rest of the day, maybe the next if I’m feeling lucky.  It works better than Claritin for me, no joke.

Besides, I took a look at the source, and most of those stories are from people who are either druggies or were being stupid at the time of their overdose.

Benadryl still makes me too drowsy to work properly so I can’ use it anyway. Being half asleep and running a press is not a good thing. (Thankfully I don’t run the clicker press anymore, but now I’m an inspector so i have to be awake enough to catch bad product.)

I know hun, I’m not knocking that.  People are different, and medications will work differently, and it’s up to the person to responsibly decide what to use and how much of it to take.  That’s why it’s always said you need to “use as directed” otherwise you get other side-effects from overdosage and stuff.

It just bothered me that this post seemed to perpetuate a fear of the medicine as a whole with that little footnote there at the end simply because it has the potential.  Might as well tell everyone to swear off all OTCs cuz they all have that potential.

How does that negate the fact that at extremely high doses, hallucination occurs? So what if someone was being stupid? Admittedly, swearing off Benadryl altogether based on a likelihood of hallucinations at dosages too high for normal use is silly, but it isn’t like the user was advocating nobody take Benadryl. I just don’t get the vehemence here.

It doesn’t, I was just taken aback that something like this would be enough to not only get people to stop taking it if they need to (cuz in the actual recommended dosage it’s very safe, and effective for some such as myself) and/or prevent people from ever taking it just because an OTC can potentially have this effect if taken in very high doses.  It’s just common sense, that’s no need to let something like this instill enough fear in a person that it keeps them from getting what they might medically need.

And I think it was also the note about not ingesting Benadryl at all unless “medicinally prescribed”.  That’s a bad move on didyouknow’s part, because Benadryl is over-the-counter; therefore, literally any adult can get it, and you don’t even need a suggestion by a doctor to use it unless you’re playing it really safe because you’re unsure of how DPH might affect your body.  They’re more or less perpetuating a fear of an OTC that of course can have other effects in very high doses (the source has a story where someone took 700mg—28 25mg pills—and most others are in the 150 to 300mg range), but is safe to use in the actual dosage.  All people need to do is use it as directed and they’re fine.

Thought you couldn’t hate Obama any more than you already do?  This is absolutely absurd.  Just the mere fact that he would ask (order) a Marine to do this shows he has no concept of respect.  Think this is photoshopped?  I got it from the CNN website.  It’s completely true.  Do a web search and you’ll see multiple sources.  This President is absolutely worthless.

Title ten of the Armed Forces US Code says that members of the military do what is asked of them by their  Commander in Chief.  The man next to them is the Prime Minister of  Hungary.  It would be bad show to let the rain fall on the head of a visiting diplomat, and any Marine on Presidential duty is honored to be there.  This is not about the umbrellas, it is about treating visiting dignitaries with honor and respect.  To only have an umbrella over the head of Prime Minister Orban would be a sign of superiority or strength over the visiting PM.  The president did the correct thing in the situation by showing enough respect for his fellow leader and giving them both an equal platform.

Y’all need to stop freaking the fuck out over stupid shit like umbrellas.

pls.

also he didn’t think he even needed the umbrella, thus resulting in this picture of him checking if it was even raining even more aka my favorite picture of him ever:

Speaking as the son of a former Army officer, OP’s post is even more disrespectful towards the Marine in the photo - and the US military in general - than it is towards the President. It shows that literally the only part of being in the military OP has respect for is the part that involves killing others and that is not the biggest part of the military by a long shot and is not the part of military service most members joined for. People join the military to serve the nation, and part of that is stuff like this. There is a reason active duty military do not and are not supposed to discuss their opinions of a President during that President’s term. The President is the Commander in Chief regardless of who they actually are. Republican, Democrat, third party, no longer existent party: it does not matter. Being art of the White House guard and the Presidential detail, especially when a foreign dignitary or leader is present, is one of the biggest honors in the military.

But it’s a fucking umbrella, so complaining about it in the first place is massively moronic.

Reblogged for the commentary, not for the original poster.

And also…

AND:

Yes, the Marines are often forced to get wet while standing outside the White House because they cannot hold an umbrella. Yes, the Marine Corps uniform regulations state a Marine cannot hold an umbrella. But Marine spokesman Capt. Eric Flanagan explained to the Washington Post that, according to Title 10 of the U.S. Code, Marines must “perform such other duties as the President may direct.” So when the President asks you to hold an umbrella over his head, you hold an umbrella over his head.”

And here’s a fun response from an actual Marine telling umbrella people to STFU.
